Beekman Point Engineering provided comprehensive mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection design services for the new 275,000 sq. ft Mission Foods avocado storage, ripening, and distribution center in Laredo, TX. Collaborating with the architectural team on window selections and film coatings, we reduced window radiant energy transmission by modeling multiple options within our design software. Our mechanical design services included warehouse conditioning with Air Rotation Units, office spaces equipped with multi-zone VAV-based systems, IT spaces, and riser rooms. Plumbing services involved coordinating with code officials to adjust the required sand/grit separator to a more practical and cost-effective size while meeting code standards. Additionally, we designed a complete site compressed air system, water distribution network, triplex water booster pump, and water heating solutions. The fire protection design featured a double-interlock pre-action system for cold storage areas, ensuring full ceiling sprinkler coverage with the ‘surround and drown’ approach. The design also incorporated a diesel fire water pump for enhanced reliability. Full commissioning services were provided, with all HVAC and plumbing systems tested against our written sequences of operation to ensure complete compliance with the design intent.
